Assessment of tobacco products gives the answers to applicant's questions regarding the conformity to the requirements set out in EU legislation and/or declared by the manufacturer, including:

• conformity of the actual tar, nicotine and carbon monoxide content in cigarettes to the amount stated on the label 

• assessment of the ignition propensities of cigarettes 

• conformity of the labelling of tobacco products

Expertise findings are based on sample testing in LATSERT laboratory, which is one of the EC official laboratories for cigarette testing.

Expertise of tobacco products carried out by LATSERT is used not only by businesses, but also by the competent authorities – Latvian and foreign market surveillance institutions.
