New chemical safety requirements for toys
As of 20 July 2013 Toy Safety Directive No. 2009/48 is applied in full, therefore the new chemical safety requirements for toys are in force and the following things are determined:
- migration limits of 19 chemical elements (previously migration limits were established for 8 elements) and their determination must be carried out in the order set out in the new standard EN 71-3:2013;
- restrictions have been set on chemicals that are classified as carcinogenic, mutagenic or harmful to reproduction, for use in toys or as their components;
- bans on the use of certain allergenic fragrances in toys and other requirements.
When placing the toys on the EU market after 20 July 2013, they must be assessed according to the new chemical requirements.
